Let me tell you a good story
Bloodbound Fanfiction (characters and main story belongs to Pixelberry Studios).
Pairing: Kamilah Sayeed and MC (Annie)
Information: this takes place after Bloodbound 3, here Iâm recreating how Kamilah and MC would meet if she had never gone to Raines Corporation right away.
Summary: Thirty years after meeting Annie for the first time, Kamilah is now a wife and a mother. During a regular family dinner, she decides to tell her daughter and the new son-in-law the story of how she fell in love with Annie after an unusual meeting through the hallways of NYU.
Warnings: none.
Part 1Â Part 3
Let me tell you a good story - Part 2
March 2nd, 2048Â
âYouâre telling it wrong.â Anna shook her head in disbelief. âKamilah Sayeed, you be a woman and admit to them that you checked my butt when I was opening the officeâs door.â
âI donât think they need to know that part. Itâs not an important piece of information.â
âHa! But me shivering when you sensually pressed yourself against me is an important piece of information?â
 âI did not sensually presâŠâ
âGuys!â Lysia hit the table, laughing. âFocus!â
âMaybe I should be the one telling the rest nowâ Anna pinched Kamilahâs arm playfully. âSince youâre omitting the good bits.â
âYou know what, my love? That is not a bad idea. I want to hear your version of the next part. Itâs my favourite one.â Kamilah eyes had a glimpse of amusement. âAnd you do not dare to hide anything from our conversation in the hallway.â
While trying not to blush over that memory â and failing â Anna turned to Lysia and Drake with a happy broad smile on her face. âSo, letâs continue. We went for coffee. And you mother just couldnât stop staring at my butt.â
Kamilah rolled her eyes but didnât interrupt it.
 August 15th, 2018
âSo, how do you like your coffee?â Anna had guided them to a small coffee cart by the side of the building. There was barely anyone around, unlike the other gigantic coffee carts they passed by.Â
The woman arched her eyebrows to the small old man playing some sort of card game with a kid. They were speaking a language she couldnât understand. âBlack. No sugar.â
âFigured.â Anna laughed softly, approaching the old man and playing a kiss on both his cheeks before starting to talk in the same language as them. âTudo bem, AntĂŽnio? Pode me fazer dois cafĂ©s pretos extrafortes? Um deles sem açĂșcar, por favor.â
âYou know him?â She asked when the girl took a step back, waiting for the coffee.
âYup.â Annie drove her attention to the kid on the floor. He looked back when felt her hugging from behind, smiling and waving to both women. âI stay here a lot.â
âSo I seeâŠâ those brown eyes once again started to analyse the cart, now with less suspicion. âThat language you spoke. Was it Portuguese?â
âYeah. Got it right away, huh? People usually think itâs Spanish or Italian. Every time I tell them Iâm Brazilian, they just start to speak Spanish with me⊠Or a really loud and slow version of English. Both suck. My Spanish is horrible. And Iâm not deaf.â
âAqui, Aninha. Dois cafĂ©s bem fortes. Um sem açĂșcar, e o seu bem doce.â AntĂŽnio gave her a warm smile. He always remembered how Annie liked her coffee. She paid for it with a five-dollar bill and refused any change.
Slowly, they started to walk away with their coffees. The sunset was almost over, a dark shade of orange shining on Annaâs black wavy hair. She kept her eyes staring at the floor, lips twitching with indecision. It seemed she was trying to find the right words. The stranger besides her had such an intimidating aura that suddenly Anna felt like a shy teenager again, not the impressive college professor who won tons of arguments during congresses. She tried to gather courage to look at the woman once again, her mouth opening to ask a question, but someone interrupted with a touch on the shoulder.
âAnna?â They turned to face another college professor. She looked no more than thirty, blue eyes shining behind blond bangs. âSorry to disturb you. I was just passing by. Did you get the chance to read my email?â
âNo worries, Faith. Iâm the one who should be apologizing, I did read the email, but I was so distracted by the donations this week I forgot to give you an answer. It was about the article, right? You sent me a sketch?â
âYes, yes. For a new magazine weâre working on. Itâs due to Monday. I was wondering if you could take a look and help me fix the mistakes. Iâm sure there are plenty of them.â
The one named Faith took a step forward, practically excluding the other woman from the conversation. There was something on her smile, a hint of a special admiration.
âTo Monday? Gosh, Iâm so sorry. Letâs do the following. Are you staying for the lecture today?â Anna pointed to the sign on the wall. They were having those big weekly lectures with different CEOs and tonight was going to be a Mrs. K. Sayeed speaking⊠Among others less important names.
âWhat? Oh. Yeah. I am.â She cleared wasnât planning to until now.
âPerfect. Thatâll give me time to read it again and make better notes. When the lecture finishes, come and meet me at my office, we can talk about it. Okay?â
âSure thing, Ann. Iâll see you later.â Faith took another step forward, kissing Annie on both cheeks before turning back to the building.
The woman beside her had a judgemental look on her face.
âWhat?â Anna took a sip of the coffee.
âDo all of your co-workers kiss you?â
âIâm Brazilian. We kiss people on the cheek. Regularly. Itâs the polite thing to do.â
âShe is definitely not Brazilian. I donât think her kissing was over politeness.â
âWhy, are you jealous?â Anna opened a teasing smile.
The woman answered with a short laugh. âNo.â But her eyes were sparkling. Analysing. Right now, she was capturing Annieâs features: the pink-flowered blouse stuck inside social pants, stains of coffee on one of the blazerâs sleeves, her short stature, those black burning eyes.Â
âWhy are you here?â The professorâs voice cracked the silence that lingered between them. âI mean, youâre not a student. Is it the lecture?â
âOh. Yes. I have to be there in ten minutes.â A flash of discomfort crossed Annieâs face after hearing those words. âWhat? Something against the lecture?â
âNo. Not exactly. Itâs just⊠Not my kind of thing.â
âHow so?â
They were back at the entrance. Anna leaned her head for a second, deciding what to do. Then, she took a step in, waiting to be followed by the woman.
âWell. Letâs just say that listening to billionaires giving advices to a hundred rich kids about how to perpetuate the same M.O. of exploitation their parents and grandparents had been doing for decades is not on my top list of good use of academic time and space.â That was the sincerest she could be without cursing. âIâd rather watch other lectures.â
âDid you watch any of the previous ones to have such a sharp opinion?â
âI did, in fact. Two. The first one, with the Canadian guy, Mr. Phelps. And last week. I had some spare time. It was⊠Raines. Adrian Raines. From Raines Corporation. He was better than Phelps. A little.â
The woman seemed to stiff a bit.
âWhat about tonight? Do you know the speakers?â
Annaâs eyes moved away to the floor. Every time she had to search for something in her memory, there were these little signals. Fingers entangling, like a little prayer about to start. Eyebrows furrowing. Lips pressing. The unknown woman noticed it all, since she couldnât stop looking at the professor.
âThree of them. Mr. Walker. Heâs a teacher here. Stupid, arrogant, and too touchy around female professors, may I add. I also know Haley, Haley Dens, I helped her with a job interview a while ago. We met during a lecture at Columbia. Sheâs nice, but Iâm not familiar with her work. I also know the main attraction, not on person, but I read her thesis. Ms. K. Sayeed. Solid thesis. Better than Mr. Raines.â
âHm. Tell me more about it.â
Anna kept her posture, walking slower by the minute. âHow can I say it? I sensed⊠A little bit of naivety on Mr. Raines thesis. Heâs not actually perpetuating the status quo, instead he tries to fix itâs problems, make it into a new system by improving the qualities. This doesnât work. Heâs just embellishing something thatâs already broken. Ms. Sayeed is clever. Her mistakes are different ones.â
The silence and the curious look on the womanâs face were pushing Anna to continue.
âHm. Ok. Letâs just say that Ms. Sayeed thesis is more consisting, but the end is frustrating. She admits the system sucks. With better words, of course. And that itâs impossible to fix it. So far, Iâm on board. But then, her analysis stop. Itâs like a Fukuyama kind of thing, you know? He said history was over. Ms. Sayeed is claiming economy is doomed. Dead. Over. Nothing to do. No one can change things. I beg to differ. Thatâs such a stupid and lazy conclusion. I do believe the system is broken, and fixing it wonât take us anywhere⊠Thatâs why we need to build a new one. From scratch.â
âA dreamer, arenât you?â
Annie lifted her gaze to find a malicious smile on the womanâs face. She was suddenly stunted by the beauty of it. All the seriousness on her tone, the posture, the entangled fingers, all of it dropped. Suddenly, the college professor returned to the hypnotized teenager mode, bouncing from one foot to another. She looks like a goddess. Oh my. Oh my. Sheâs⊠Wait. Who is she?
âOh no. Iâm so sorry. I was so distracted I forgot to ask your name.â
The womanâs brown eyes locked with Annaâs as she approached. For a moment, the professor thought they were going to kiss. Her back was pressed against the pillar, so dangerously close to the stranger that lavender parfum started to dominate her senses. And even though there were a few students walking around, she wouldnât mind having that gorgeous woman kissing her in the middle of the hallway.
âKamilah.â She tucked a lock of hair behind Annaâs ear. The small touch sent electric signals through their bodies. âNice to meet you, Annie.â
âNice to meet you too.â That was barely a whisper. Her voice was gone. Disappeared.
And all Anna could do was watch as that goddess step back and head inside the auditorium, wondering if all that talk was real. If she was real.
The coffee definitely is. The taste of it was lingering on her tongue.
So was the desire to kiss Kamilah.

Edinburgh v Glasgow Warriors: Rory Sutherland relishing nerves of âmust-winâ game
Rory Sutherland made an sight-catching atomize for Scotland in Februaryâs 13-6 defeat by England
Venue: Murrayfield Stadium Date: Saturday, 22 August Kick-off: 17: 15 BST Protection: Live commentary on BBC Radio Scotland, are living text updates on BBC Sport web site & app
The storm-lashed Calcutta Cup had been such a joyless grind that no one was once willing for what took speak in the early moments of the 2nd half at Murrayfield in the pre-lockdown days of early February.
After 42 minutes of unhappy kicks, dropped passes, misplaced lineouts and collapsed scrums, some lawful rugby broke out without be aware. Shock, awe; somebody went thru a gap. Clearly bored to dying anticipating the aptitude gamers to withhold out it, Rory Sutherland stepped up.
All of it appears to be so plot back now, but the moment serene causes the Scotland loosehead to verbalize. âI truly concept one thing was once harmful on the subject because I threw this absolutely ridiculous dummy and everybody fell for it,â he recalls.
Whatâs at stake as Edinburgh face Glasgow?
Engage your mixed Edinburgh-Glasgow XV
âI concept, âCling on, it wouldât be appropriate that everybody sold that dummy. Has the ref blown the whistle or what?â
âThen the M6 unfolded in entrance of me and I ran. For the principle couple of seconds, I was once going, âIâm scoring right here, Iâm scoringâ, then I remembered that there was once a rotund-back and a winger chasing me. âYouâre noâ scoring right here, youâre noâ scoringâ.
âI loved it, though. Now not losing, but playing at Murrayfield for Scotland. I absolutely bloody loved it.â
âThose 14 months were absolute hellâ
Rugby is back, which manner Sutherland is back, which manner weâll get to study how his fairytale fable develops over the route of what is generally a momentous one year, from a Professional14 match for Edinburgh in opposition to Glasgow Warriors on Saturday to a attainable British & Irish Lions tour 10 months from now.
Sutherlandâs scrummaging, ball-carrying and all-round work-price was once so appropriate in the Six Nations that he was once a popular resolve when folk played the lockdown game of âEstablish Your Lions Teamâ.
Sir Ian McGeechan, Brian OâDriscoll and Will Greenwood all picked Sutherland because the starting Check loosehead. Lawrence Dallaglio said he found it no longer attainable to separate Sutherland, Mako Vunipola and Joe Marler.
Rory Sutherland (left) has battled back from a profession-threatening knee injury that also requires strapping
Everybody was once blown away by his performances and his fable. Saturday in opposition to Glasgow â âa must always-rankingâ â is the next chapter in whatâs an story sage of victory over horrendous injury, anxiousness and depression.
Sutherland and his long-time partner, Tammy, obtained married a pair of weeks back. What a bolt theyâve been on. The 2 of them, plus their boys, eight-one year-old Mason â âa amassed and aloof exiguous soulâ â and 4-one year-old Hamish â âwhoâll either be a mind surgeon or a gangster when he grows upâ.
The vital parts of his strive in opposition to are known and, though it gets rather boring reliving it all all any other time, he is aware of that it be thanks to what took speak to him in the spring of 2016 that heâs who he is at the contemporary time.
In blowing his adductor muscle groups off the bone and into kingdom attain, after which enduring bilateral groin reconstruction, the prospects of him strolling and working nicely all any other time werenât excessive. By no manner mind rugby. The fright at the time was once that the remainder of his life might possibly possibly well possibly be compromised by his injury.
His first concept is for his wife. âThe stuff she had to place up with, seeing to the adolescents in the morning after which helping me off the bed, no longer many folk have any thought what it was once admire,â Sutherland says. âShe was once superwoman.
âThat 14 months was once absolute hell â anxiousness and depression and all other forms of feelings that you create no longer study about. I had to study a bunch of experts and numerous of the doctors I talked to would speak I mustnât even soak up mind playing all any other time. So from going from official sport to somebody telling you that commonplace life might possibly possibly well possibly no longer be the identical all any other time was once nefarious.
âIâm no longer particular if Iâve said this sooner than, but the principle surgical treatment failed due to the a rotten an infection. They had to begin it up and return in. They said they would well possibly now not bolt in a third time, so when I went home, I was once to cease in bed for a month.
âAfter that, if I needed to leave the home, it needed to be in a wheelchair. Iâve spoken about all of it sooner than, but Iâm in a position toât get away from the incontrovertible reality that every particular person amongst that made me who Iâm. It could in all probability well possibly sound deep and rather tacky, however it be appropriate.â
The debate of the Lions is nicely put in context. Whereas you virtually lose all the pieces, then making huge plans about the future is rather of a mugâs game. âEvery every so often I will fantasise about what it might possibly possibly possibly well possibly be admire, however it would now not final long. I snap out of it lovely lickety-split,â he admits.
âThe requires are massiveâ
Weâre now coming into arguably basically the most intense length of massive-time rugby in the history of the game. The Professional14 must always be played to a conclusion in four successive weeks, adopted by a European Scenario Cup quarter-closing with Bordeaux in week 5.
Arrive the third week of October, the advise moves to the Check enviornment. Scotland will have six fits sooner than the pause of the one year. There will be extra Professional14, extra Europe, the 2021 Six Nations and, for the chosen few, the 2021 Lions tour, presuming it goes ahead.
For the elite, right hereâs going to be a marathon speed at a heart-distance runnerâs dash.
Rory Sutherland is hoping to lead Edinburgh to a condominium sem-closing in the Professional14
In his contemporary e book, the extinct England captain, Dylan Hartley, writes of the realities of standard rugby where gamers âgobble painkillers admire Smartiesâ and are put collectively âwith stitches and glueâ sooner than being âchewed up and spat outâ.
Whereas you read these traces to Sutherland, he understands where Hartley is coming from. âYeah, absolutely,â he says. âThe requires for your physique are massive. The manner the game is evolving, there are requires on gamers to be healthier, quicker and stronger.
âWeâre regarded after, but in case you play, practice, play, practice, it be a truly no longer easy cycle to be on. Painkillers, I know how rotten theyâre going to even be. After my injury, I was once on a bunch of a bunch of painkillers to accommodate it. To now not practice or to play, appropriate to get thru the day, sitting at home or strolling around the home. Very sturdy painkillers and a bunch of them. My household old to claim I regarded grey, admire a ghost. Or no longer itâs a truly vital subject, this.
âWhat Hartley is talking about is, must you are going to have a niggle, you are going to need some painkillers to get thru it for the weekend game. Or no longer itâs a dog-luxuriate in-dog world in official sport.
âWhereas you are no longer willing to head a pair of weeks of having to steal painkillers to practice and play then there might possibly possibly well possibly be somebody else in a position to steal your condominium. That is the truth of it. Whereas you are no longer willing to create these sacrifices, somebody else might possibly possibly well possibly and theyâre going to be the one playing every week.â
âWe will all be blowing the cobwebs offâ
He says heâll be fearful sooner than the Glasgow game. Nothing contemporary there. He can remember being bodily sick sooner than video games at college. Having no longer played a Check match since June 2016, he started in opposition to Ireland in Dublin in the gap round of the 2020 Six Nations and the nerves came all any other time.
Paraphrasing, whereas in a position to head out on the pitch at the Aviva, there was once a fright of a commotion in the bowel department, in case you get his drift.
âI did nicely in opposition to Tadhg Furlong in that match,â he says. âI obtained around the pitch and I obtained self-perception. At one level, I appropriate said to myself, âIâm doing all appropriate right here, Iâm in a position to operate thisâ. I will be bricking it all any other time on Saturday. Nerves are a appropriate yelp.â
An Edinburgh victory and a Munster defeat in Dublin would give Sutherlandâs team a condominium semi-closing, possibly in opposition to Ulster. A defeat and the fright of an away semi-closing in opposition to Leinster becomes an exact prospect.
âNow we have got to ranking, absolutely,â he says. âAnd thatâs one thing we have been using in any respect week. Weâre high of our pool and now we have to cease there. Glasgow will be doing their damndest to create certain we create no longer. We will all be blowing the cobwebs off. It will be stress-free. It will be tall to come all any other time accessible.â

NM2207, NM2219, NM2220 Module Reviews
It is the time of the year again: frantically searching for that one particular module suitable for all your needs â be it academic requirements, to boost your skills, your CAP or just a non-8am lecture slot you can never wake up for?
Whatever it is, I hope these reviews will help you find the module(s) for you đ Do just take note these are my personal thoughts and experiences which may differ accordingly to individuals.
Tip: I encourage all CNM majors, especially if youâre in year 1/2, to just look into the various 3k/4k modules you might want to take in the future because some of them might require pre-requisites of other modules. E.g. a particular 2K mod is required for a 3K mod which is a requirement for a 4K mod. Yes, so they accumulate, and if you donât want to get the short end of the stick â do your research properly~ So enough nagging: here it comes~
NM2207 Module Review
NM2207 Computational Media Literacy aka the âcodingâ mod of CNM. This mod teaches Javascript, CSS and HTML and is meant for web design. Even if youâre not planning on the game design track or have no coding knowledge at all, you can still consider this purely because of how useful this module is. The mod assumes zero coding background from everyone which really showed in the lecture/tutorial/homework materials that did a really good job in explaining concepts while challenging us to search up more info to enrich our learning.
There are no physical lectures but weekly online videos to watch (around 2.5 hours). I highly suggest you be on the ball and watch the videos before tutorials because we will to apply whatever the videos went through.
Hereâs the grading breakdown:
15% Tutorial/participation: 3 hours tutorial sessions (usually 6-9pm for CNM students on internship to join as part of their MOOC courses), one coding challenge for each tutorial session that students (in pairs) can work together to complete. TAs will be around to help. The faster you finish the assigned work, the faster you can leave. :)
15% Midterm exam (either week 6 or 7): 1 hour, closed book pen and paper style.
20% Final exam (week 13): Closed book pen and paper style.
35% Final project: A solo project where you have to design and code an online application e.g. a game/ interactive story/ an animation/ etc from scratch. Donât freak out yet! We are not expected to churn out a super highly-skilled app to attain decent grades â just something original and creative would do that trick. :)
15% Assignments: These were known as weekly homework and a major pain. We had to follow the assigned instructions to code the final products which are to be uploaded on our webpage by Saturday This was really difficult because some of them were really challenging and I had to email my TA constantly for help. :(
Personally, this was a very intellectually challenging module for me. Especially since I understand things related to coding rather slowly. It was also rather time-consuming; I think I spent around 10 hours weekly on this mod. In fact, I wouldnât recommend taking this module if you think youâll have a really packed semester (or just be prepared to use an S/U, in case?) Otherwise, I have to admit, it was really intriguing and super rewarding to finish all these seemingly-impossible tasks and to complete the module with a great end :)

Final Grade: B+
NM2220 Module Review
NM2220 Introduction to Media Writing is basically as the module name suggests â introduction to media writing. This module is super highly recommended for anyone who has an interest in doing writing as a career as it covers a range of writing: news media, both print and broadcast journalism, copywriting for advertisement, public relations, feature writing and writing for the web. It even covers topics like media law and ethics. Basically, whatever fundamentals of writing you think you might need for your career and perhaps even more.
Sounds a lot? Yes, actually this module is considered to be one of the more hardcore CNM 2K modules. Both lectures and tutorial require us to be on the ball constantly and I assure you thereâll definitely be a writing practice in every single session. Depending on your luck, you might even be called on in lecture to share your ideas. So, no random scrolling through Facebook for cat videos and whatnot. Lectures are, as per normal, 2 hours weekly while tutorials are pretty demanding at 2 hours weekly and require you to write on the spot.
I apologise as I cannot remember the exact breakdown but from what I can remember:
10% News angle: Find a local news article and develop 3 other news angle that have not been published before.
20% Feature writing: Write a feature story based on NUS student life with 3 original photographs and optional video.
15% Public release + planning of 4 social media posts: Write a press released based on a provided scenario and organisation (details to be developed by yourself) + 4 pseudo social media posts of 1 pre-event and 1 post-event post (including captions/ visual description) on Facebook and Instagram. And you donât have to actually post it, just describe the posts.
15% Tutorial participation/ attendance
40% Final exam:Â Closed book pen and paper style. Three segments based on a single given scenario (mine was an accident by a hired car company outside school): 1. Broadcast journalism report (with details to be developed by yourself) 2. Two social media posts based on the accident 3. Two (?) feature story angles based on the accident.
Overall, I really enjoyed this module. Since I had zero experience in such media writing prior to this, it really provided me with the fundamentals that are pretty important in any career related to writing. Especially for people who consider doing media writing related work in the future, I really recommend you take up this mod to know whether youâre suitable/ whether this would be something you enjoy. :)
Tip: You have to either take this mod or NM2219 to take up certain 3K mods such as NM3219 (find out more on NUSmods).

NM2219 Module Review
NM2219 Principles of Communication Management is really good module for everyone to consider if theyâre planning to head into PR-related field or to discover whether this field is something for you. The module is very comprehensive and covers various fields related to PR e.g. crisis management, issues management, forms and types of PR approaches. To be honest, this module was really rather dry for me with a lot of PR concepts and content. But I guess a redeeming factor is that the content is quite easy to understand and the workload for this module is rather little compared to NM2207 and NM2220. If youâre considering a 2K module that is good/ useful career-wise (the skills you learn in this module can be easily transferrable to a PR-related career) and also not too much on the workload, this is a pretty decent choiceđ
30% Midterm exam (week 7): Closed book, 30 MCQs (not sure if this changes according to the lecturer). I would recommend to read the textbook readings as some of the questions made references to the definition and related stuff.
30% Final exam: Closed book, around 15 MCQs with 2 SAQs and 1 longer question split into various parts (based on a provided PR issue, answer the sub-questions to resolve the issue based on the PR steps).
25% Group project [Presentation (10%); Paper (15%)]: Research on a company with local influence that might have a potential PR issue/ is currently facing a PR crisis and come up with solutions for the issue.
5% Peer review
10% Class participation: Weekly tutorials that are 45-minutes each; mostly used for explaining certain concepts that are to be covered in your group report and for the tutor to check up on your groupâs progress.
If you donât mind a slightly dry module with quite a bit of content (that is rather simple to grasp) and are considering a PR-related field, you should really take up this module. Actually, even if youâre not going into PR, knowing some PR knowledge can be applicable in almost every job that requires human interaction/ brand reputation. So yes, donât count this one out!
Tip: You have to either take this mod or NM2220 to take up certain 3K mods such as NM3219 (find out more on NUSmods).

HI GUYS!!!! Oh my, itâs been a looooooong while. I actually went through my blog and re-read everything and Iâve noticed that I was always saying how âI donât know what to and how to do blogging anymoreâ in most of my previous posts but I PROMISE THIS TIME, I LEGIT DONâT KNOW WHAT TO WRITE OR HOW DO I DO THIS ANYMORE because I havenât done this for like forever. It felt like Iâm starting again!!! Okay sige, Iâm not gonna babble more. Letâs just hop right into my post.
Okay, so as what Iâve mentioned on my previous posts, Iâve entered Third Year or the Medtech proper last school year 2016-2017 and thatâs (also) the reason why I was gone for a very long time. Idk, I just found myself being swallowed by acads and all that jazz that I never really had the time to write a single blogpost. Thereâs so much that has happened in my entire Third Year life and I wish I couldâve had written any ofâem and immortalize the memories on this blog and hark back to those times... but sadly, I didnât. Anyway, as you can probably tell on the title, this post would be a ârundownâ of my experience as a Third Year Medical Technology student.
(Wait, how do I start?)
We started the school year earlier than the normal students in our university due to the reason that we were trying to chase the schedule for the 1-year internship so everything would fit and we would end just right on time for the graduation (yikes chills) because as you all know, we are one of those pabibo schools who embraced the academic calendar shift. So the clinical subjects I took this year are as follows:
1st Semester
MIC111 â Bacteriology
PAR100 â Clinical Parasitology
GPHC100 â General Pathology, Histopathology and Cytopathology
CC111 â Routine Clinical Chemistry
HEMA111 â Hematology 1
MTLBE100 â Medical Technology Laws and Bioethics
LMS100 â Laboratory Management and Supervision
2nd Semester
MIC112 â Mycology and Virology
UBF100 â Urinalysis and Body Fluids (Clinical Microscopy)
HEMA112 â Hematology 2
SIM100 â Serology and Immunology
CC112 â Continuation of CC1/ Special Chemistry
CC113 â Endocrinology, Toxicology and Drug Testing
IMH100 â Immunohematology (Blood Banking and Transfusion Medicine)
I canât believe I already passed all these subjects let alone the first sem subjects!!!! Personally, I think First semester is harder than the Second Semester idk maybe because itâs the time when we were just and still adapting to the new and toxic environment of Third Year life and the transition is quite overwhelming. Also, the passing rate was raised from 60% in Second Year to 70% in Third Year. I CANâT EVEN!!! Plus the laboratory practical exams had an upgrade to like 5x that of the Second Year pracs. Thereâs legit a time when I went back to my dorm during lunch break just to cry because of a practical exam and a fair share of tears were shed at nights when I have no idea how to fit and finish everything before the sunrise. Also thereâs a day when, for the first time in my life, I called my mom after I got back in my dorm from school and cried for my dear life because EVERYTHING WAS SO HARD.
Itâs also during First Semester when I learned how essential it is to know the time difference from night (letâs say 7pm) to 5am the next day and how to utilize it very well because your life literally depends on how you manage and distribute it to sleeping and studying because you know, youâll only have to read 1-3 chapters per subject and you only have like 3 quizzes the next day for the lecture and probably a practical exam or a long quiz for the laboratory in the afternoon. JUST HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO PREPARE FOR THAT IN LESS THAN 10HRS???--- is all I was thinking then. Thatâs how resentful and pitiful I was back then.
We were taught the laboratory skills we needâ Venipuncture (of course! the freaking highlight and a must), Blood Smearing, Staining, Pipetting!! Oh God forbid, I loathe glass pipetting so much! Direct Fecal Smear... and all medtech-y skills. I love Bacteriology so much. It was the subject I got the highest grade during First Semester. The lecture and laboratory were both the bomb.com. But ofc, I wouldnât forget the anxiety the Unknown has given us. For our finals in the lab, we were given unknown organisms and we were to identify it via Biochemical Testing and everything we were taught of on how to identify such. It took me so long to decide what my organism was because some of the biochemical test results werenât at par with theoretical information so imagine my anguish. Our grades basically depended on it so... yeah.
but in the end, I decided it was Enterobacter cloacae.
Another memory from First Semester is the time when we were to submit Enterobius swabs as additional points for our Parasitology laboratory. I took my bestfriend with me to hunt down possible patients. It was such a memorable experience, I have no more words. I poured all the feels on this Facebook post.
Also, Iâll never forget about First Semester is the day when we had our Grand Practical Exam in our laboratory subjects and it was the time when 3rd Floor HSC was in a total dishevelment. We were taking turns and rotating in different labs to have our moving practical exams simultaneously--- one section is having their Histopath moving pracs, the other is having their Bacte moving pracs, then another section is on the roil in Hematology moving pracs while the other one is having their Parasitology Moving Pracs and the like. That was the most intense day ever imaginable.
Also on that day, was the first time I was able to extract blood on a practical exam!!! I can never forget how stupid I may have looked for shouting âHala may dugoâ when blood oozed out from my partnerâs vein. I was never able to bleed my partner in almost all the practicals we had due to my infamous phobia with needles and I was legit surprised and awed when a blood came out that day!!!
For the events of Second Semester... Iâm not really sure?? lol even though itâs the more recent semester, I canât remember much from it coz it went like a blur to me. It was so fast it was so unreal that it actually happened!!! (and that I passed!)
Okay. One thing I could say about Second Semester is that I fancy UBF hahahaha Iâm not sure if itâs the subject itself or teacher factor hahahaha but to be honest, it was so fun to study and probably the easiest of the panel of subjects for second semester (or so I thought).
The laboratory learning and insights this semester gave me more of the medtech feels because most of the experiments/tests we did in the lab were the ones that are being performed in the actual laboratory setting. I will never forget the struggle of dilution in Serology lab. We arenât allowed to use calculators during the entire semester and of course as someone who absolutely hates math and computation, thatâs. the. worst. nightmare. ever. So given that situation, imagine our surprise during the Final Laboratory Written examination when our instructor finally allowed us to use calculator. Everybody in the class was in awe because thatâs super unexpected. We didnât have much of moving practical exams this sem compared to the numerous ones we had on first semester. The practical exams this time were more like skills-based and principle application. Slide identification-kind-of-moving practicals was surprisingly nakakamiss.
Self-pity time: Two semester have passed and no one was able to extract blood from me huhuhu do I even have veins??? :------(
Just to give you some insight, there are:
4 major examinations in each lecture subjects
2 major written examination in each laboratory subjects
(100-item identification)
Moving Practical Exam in each laboratory subjects
Skills/Application Practical Exam in each laboratory subjects
Pre and post quizzes in every meeting in each lecture subjects
Pre and post quizzes in every laboratory experiments
Long Quizzes every after chapter
Long Quizzes before major examination in each lecture subject
Long Quizzes before major examination in each laboratory subjects
Surprise quizzes whenever the professor would like
Not to mention the drawings of each specimen in laboratory manuals in each laboratory subject
2 Journal readings in each lecture subject
So ayun, hindi po kami OA and nag-iinarte. Our lives literally revolve in exams and quizzes.
Moving on, last May 09, we had our Pre-Internship Program which is a prerequisite before you can proceed to the actual internship. On that exact day,we took a 700-item Diagnostic Examination without any notice and I literally just came back from an 8-hour trip because I went home in Bicol so I was sitting for like 14 hours straight!!! We had series of practical examinations for two weeks, a Phlebotomy seminar with BD Philippines, a tour in a National Reference Laboratory which is the National Kidney Institute and an Oral Revalida.
CAUTION: Photospam ahead.
Iâm not sure if this is enough to summarize everything because I can feel that itâs not even in the slightest bit justified on this post. Maybe itâs one of the wonders of life that cannot be really put into words. (But you tried, self what are you doing hahaha)
Suffice to say that all these experiences; the nerve-racking and heartbreaking quizzes, no-sleep days, tears, sweats, blood (hahahaha legit), cramming moments and all other hardships are the variables which played significant roles in this endeavour which lead me to where I am heading right now. Iâm so happy and proud to share to you guys the next step Iâm taking in this career path. I am now officially a Medical Technology Intern at St. Lukeâs Medical Center â Quezon City under the Institute of Pathology. I know, I canât believe it myself that I was able to pass through the needle-hole like hurdle you call âThird Year lifeâ. SLMC is actually my first-in since we are to undergo 1-year internship and we will be having our second-in next semester in another hospital.
I will be forever thankful to Trinity University of Asia especially to Dean Rodriguez for always making sure that the quality of education/ training is there. Thank you for a super hands-on laboratory experience and our very own DIagnostic Laboratory in the 4th Floor. Itâs like a simulation of the environment that we will be facing in the near future. Would also like to thank our Clinical Instructors:
Mam Majo Liao
Sir Jude Anthony Trinidad
Dra. Mary Anne Isip
Sir Mark Francisco
Sir Mel Destacamento
Mam Gigi Dayrit
Mam Violie Bascao
Mam Suzzette Lumanga

Other significant life events during the course of Third Year life:
I became an Altar Server at the Shrine of Jesus the Divine Word. Hashtag dream come true.
I was elected Medical Technology Councilor in the University Student Council. Hashtag unreal.
All glory and praise to the Lord God above. Thank you for guiding me in almost everything I do. Thank you also St. Jude Thaddeus for interceding for me. Forever grateful and blessed.
Thatâs pretty much how I can sum up my Third Year life. I hope you enjoy reading as much as I enjoyed writing it! Thank you so much for reading yet another long blog post of mine. See you on my next post (hopefully thereâs a next)!!!
